What is your favorite scary movie? Nightmare On Elm Street

Whats the scariest movie you have ever seen? Poltergeist

Whats your favorite Halloween costume you had when you were little kids? I do not remember having a favorite costume, but here is a picture of me in one.

Whats your favorite Halloween candy? Anything with chocolate

Do you hand out candy or go tricker treating? Who in your house hands out the candy? We are too far out in the country to get Trick Or Treaters.  When the kids were little we would take them into town or to my brother’s neighborhood for trick or treating.

Are you going to dress up this year? If yes, what are you going to be? Just myself

Freaky Friday Follow

I used to do Meme’s every day. I got out of the habit of doing them because I just could not keep up with them and my blog posts. However, my friend Margaret – along with a friend of hers – started this one. I wanted to support her, so I decided to give this one a try.

  • How long have you been blogging? – A little over a year now.
What are your blogging goals for this year? – To brand my blog better, still have no ads on it, and to work hard on getting its reading audience to grow.
How do you balance blogging and your everyday life? – I am not sure if I do balance my blogging and my every day life.  My blogging is very important to me, as a result I spend loads of time on it.
Why do you blog? – In the beginning I blogged because I needed a place to express my out of control emotions.  Now I blog as a way to keep a journal and also to help be an activist in the Mental Health Community.
One thing people don’t know about you – I am not sure…I am so open about everything I have no idea if there is one thing my readers do not know about me.  I am going to say, Pajamas are my favorite type of clothing.
What is the craziest thing you have ever blogged about? – I think the time I blogged about my husband and his Justin Bieber dance moves has to be the craziest.

    Friday Frustrations – June 4, 2010

    Friday Frustrations-thumbnail

I actually have a few frustrations to share this week.

    1. I try very hard to not lose my temper with my daughter, however, she has been such a smart aleck lately that it is very difficult to not lose my temper.  She insists on having the last word in everything and the tone of voice she is using is not very nice.
    2. My mother in law had her license taken away a few months ago due to having seizures.  It was taken away after she had a wreck that totaled her vehicle.  She had a seizure while driving and that is why she had the wreck. She and one of her daughters lied and were able to get it back.  We used to help her pay for her car insurance but once she went back to driving and she was still having seizures, we told her we would not help with that anymore.  Wednesday she totaled another vehicle because she had a seizure.  She is not giving us many details, so we do not know if she hit another car, or if she was the only one involved.  Nor do we know if the police were involved.  I am hoping they were and they revoke her license for good.  She is not being responsible or fair when she insists on driving knowing she has seizures and could kill someone.

The Quote of the Day Meme

I love quotes. Quotes of any kind, I just love ‘em. I love to see what quotes inspire people on any given day. So I decided to start a meme that was all about quotes.

It is a very simple meme. Every Tuesday, all you have to do is to make a post with the quote you have picked for that day. If you want, you could even say why you picked that quote. After you create your post with the quote you have chosen, come back here and add your link.

The quotes can come from the internet, books, poems, magazines, your own brain, your grandma, it does not matter.

There is a button for you to grab in my side bar. You can grab the code and use it to link back to my site.

    I hope you all participate!

There is no better time than now. The time to live is now. The time to dream is now. The time to imagine and forget the past is now. The time to shine is now. The time to bleed, sweat, and determine yourself for the things you want most is now.~anonymous

    Simple Woman's Daybook – May 11, 2010

    FOR TODAY May 11, 2010

Outside my window…it is a cloudy, rainy, windy day

I am thinking…that I have learned a lot in researching information for my posts that have to do with Mental Health Awareness.

I am thankful for…family support and friend support and even strangers who have been supportive.

From the kitchen…there is the smell of coffee.

I am wearing…my pajamas as usual.  I slept later than I usually do this morning.

I am creating…or at least trying to create more topic ideas for Mental Health Awareness month.
I am going…to try and get extra work done today.  I always say that and it never really happens.  I fall asleep or other things take up my time.

I am reading…information on Mental Health Awareness and a book my daughter checked out at the library.

I am hoping…that today is a good day.  I am very sleepy though.

I am hearing…the wind blowing really hard.

Around the house…it is very quiet, except for the sound of the wind.

One of my favorite things…is cooking.  I really enjoy cooking.

A few plans for the rest of the week: I plan on keeping up with a new mental health topic a day.  It is important to me.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing…

Monday Mayhem – All About Mom

Welcome to Monday Mayhem. This meme is for people who just wanna have fun on a Monday. Last week Mayhem was All About You so today’s Monday Mayhem is It’s All About Mom. Since Mother’s Day was yesterday, Mayhem hopes that all you Mom’s out there had a great Mother’s Day. You can answer the questions any way you want to. Be sure to check out the other participants.

    1. How old is your Mom? If she has passed away, how old would she be? She will be 60 in September.  She looks young for her age, so it is hard in a way to believe that she is almost 60 years old.

    2. What is/was your Mom’s worst habit?

I am sure she has a bad habit or two, but the one thing I would have listed here, she has worked hard to stop doing.

    3. What famous person does/did your Mom resemble (a picture of that famous person would be nice)?

I do not think she looks like any famous person.  She looks like my mom.

    4. What would be one meal that you would love for your Mom to cook for you right now?

Fried Oysters.  They are so good.

    5. Was your Mom a Stay at Home Mom or did she have to go to a work/job (and yes, Mayhem understands and knows that being a Stay at Home Mom is work/job) when you were growing up?

From what I can remember she was a stay at home mom when I was growing up.  She was president of the PTA at one time and that took up a lot of her time.  She volunteered in the attendance office of my high school (hard to skip school with her doing that) and I think I remember her taking some computer classes or something when I was a teenager.

    6. If you could change one thing about your Mom what would it be?

Honestly, nothing.  The things about her personality that I really disliked she has worked hard to change.

    7. Did you ever make your mom cry? if so, explain.

More times than I care to remember.  I was a difficult teenager, and that upset her.  Plus, as an adult I have done things that I am not proud of, that I am sure made her cry.

    8. Have you ever told a lie to your Mom to protect yourself or someone else? If yes, have you come clean and told your Mom the truth?

Yes, many.  No, I have not come clean now.  I am 40, she is almost 60, “coming clean” at this time would serve no purpose.

    9. What is the one thing that you most admire about your Mom?

I think she is very brave.  She has changed a whole lot.  To do that she would have had to look at herself very closely and identify her own faults.  That is a very difficult thing to do and I believe it takes courage and bravery to do it.

    10. In 10 words or less, describe your Mom.

brave, truthful, strong, Christian, compassionate, helpful, loyal, fun, interesting, smart

Thanks for playing this week. Mayhem will catch you on the flip side next week.

    Friday Frustration –

    Friday Frustrations-thumbnail

My frustration for this week….none. This week has been an excellent week. I have been slightly busy. Trying to get one post about Mental Health Awareness completed each day is a bit of a challenge, however, so far I have managed it.

Maria, I love this Meme and I appreciate you taking the time to host it every week!

Thursday Thirteen – Mental Health Awareness

Since May is Mental Health Awareness Month and many of my posts are about Mental Health Awareness, my thirteen today are thirteen ways to maintain good mental health.

    1. Get enough rest. To have good mental and emotional health, it’s important to take care of your body. That includes getting enough sleep. Most people need seven to eight hours of sleep each night in order to function optimally.
    2. Try to avoid unhealthy mental habits. Repetitive negative mental habits, such as worry and negative thoughts about yourself or the world suck up your time, drain your energy, and trigger feelings of anxiety, fear and depression.  Replace those repetitive negative mental habits with positive ones.
    3. Manage your stress levels. Stress takes a heavy toll on mental and emotional health, so its important to keep it under control.  There is no way to eliminate everything that causes us stress, however, stress management techniques can help bring things more into balance.
    4. Connect with others. We all need to feel valued, supported and connected.  If you feel that your current connections are not enough, you can do a few things to form new ones.  Enroll in a class that intrigues you.  Join a group, like a book club, hiking club, or something else that you find interesting.  Volunteer, working together builds bonds and helping others has its own rewards.  Reach out.  Let people in your life know you need extra time with them.
    5. Get physically active. Dust off your tennis shoes and get your butt moving.  Not only is it good for you body, it is good for your mental health.  It decreases stress, anger and tension.  It reduces anxiety and depression.  It boosts your sense of well being.
    6. Create Joy and Satisfaction. It is time to add a little something to your to do list.  Pencil in a little pleasure.  You probably deserve some joy and pleasure anyway, but there are some serious benefits to pleasure.  Good feelings can help you bounce back from stress, solve problems, improve your thinking, and even boost your immune system.
    7. Eat well. Mom was right, you have to eat well to function well.  Good food can boost your energy, lower the risk of developing certain diseases, and provide fuel for your brain.  It can also counteract the impact of stress on your body, and affect mood-related chemicals in your body.
    8. Take care of your spirit. Spirituality can provide a reassuring belief in a greater force or being, a sense of purpose and meaning, and helps you focus on your own wisdom, and a way to understand suffering.
    9. Deal better with hard times. At some point in our lives, most of us will face times that are extra stressful or that even shake us to our core. At those times, having strong coping strategies can make a huge difference.  People who spend time writing about a difficult event have better health and less depression.  It is also interesting to note, writers doing this often had their grades improves and found writing jobs more quickly.  People facing stress often feel better after problem solving. People who focus on the positive in their lives are less upset by difficult memories.
    10. Help Others. If you lug your elderly neighbor’s groceries up her steps, clearly it’s good for her. But did you know that it’s likely good for you too? Research indicates that those who consistently help other people experience less depression, greater calm, fewer pains and better health. They may even live longer.
    11. Keep things in perspective. Avoid blowing things out of proportion.
    12. Prioritize. Set realistic goals.  Take small steps to accomplish each task, one at a time.
    13. Get professional help if you need it. If the problems in your life are stopping you from functioning well or feeling good, professional help can make a big difference. And if you’re having trouble, know that you are not alone: One in four adults in this country have a mental health problem in any given year.

If you or someone you know is feeling especially bad or suicidal, get help right away. You can call 1-800-273-TALK (8255) to reach a 24-hour crisis center or dial 911 for immediate assistance.

The Quote Of The Day Meme

“During depression the world disappears. Language itself. One has nothing to say. Nothing. No small talk, no anecdotes. Nothing can be risked on the board of talk. Because the inner voice is so urgent in its own discourse: How shall I live? How shall I manage the future? Why should I go on?”
